Boston Medical Center
Welcome to Our Team Fundraising Page! Thank you for visiting.
Team BMC—Boston Medical Center’s (BMC) athletic fundraising team—is participating in the Shatterproof Rise Up Against Addiction 5K Walk/Run on September 22, 2019, to benefit BMC’s Grayken Center for Addiction. The Center is a national resource for revolutionizing addiction treatment and education, replicating best practices and providing policy, advocacy and thought leadership to the field. Funds raised will support the Grayken Center’s mission of promoting innovation in the delivery of care for people affected by substance use disorders.
Why We Walk and Run:
Everyone is affected by addiction. It is not a disease of the underserved, of those who encountered a rough patch in life or the uneducated. It is affecting every socioeconomic bracket of our country, every neighborhood and every ethnicity. In fact, it is the most pressing public health crisis of our time: more than 20 million people in the United States now live with an addiction, costing more than $400 billion in health-related costs annually.
Boston Medical Center has long led the charge against addiction. From policy makers to clinicians to patients and their families, people across the country turn to Boston Medical Center for help. Over the last 25 years, BMC has become one of the most comprehensive and influential centers for addiction prevention, treatment and research in the country. Through the Grayken Center for Addiction, BMC continues its commitment to revolutionize care for substance use disorders by innovating, educating, advocating and working to empower and improve the lives of people affected by the disease.
When it comes to caring for patients with addiction, BMC recognizes one size does not fit all. BMC has developed nationally recognized, tailored treatment programs which meet patients where they are in their stage of use. Understanding that substance use can affect anyone, at any point in life, BMC's programs and services are available and accessible whenever needed, from pregnancy to adolescence and in times of crisis. By offering a wide array of programs, patients receive care suited to ensuring the best possible outcomes while also reducing hospital visits and therefore the cost of care.
